Working with Laura Leite, Kresser Institute Provider, FDN-P

Laura works with clients via the systems, protocols and strategies taught by Chris Kresser in the ADAPT Training for Functional and Evolutionary Medicine.

It differs considerably from the conventional medical model that you may be accustomed to. Please read the following information thoroughly to familiarize yourself with the process. There is also a section at the end that describes the fees.

All clients are required to schedule an Initial Consultation, in order for client and practitioner to determine if they would like to move forward.

As a registered new client, your health program consists of two phases:

  • The Case Review

  • Follow Up Appointments

PHASE ONE: The Case Review

The Case Review is the first step for all new clients. The Case Review process is designed to save money and time in the long-term by including the appropriate laboratory testing and evaluation before health program begins. A cornerstone of our approach is “test, don’t guess.” Identifying the underlying patterns contributing to disease is the key to a successful and lasting outcome.

The Case Review serves several purposes. It enables Laura to more accurately estimate how long your protocol will last, what it will include and how much it will cost. It gives you the chance to ask any questions you may have about your condition and what you should expect.

The Case Review includes:

  • A detailed and thorough review of your medical and history, assessment of lifestyle habits, and relevant previous lab work (within six months). See lab processing fee for details.

  • A review of your current diet and nutritional supplements.

  • The First Case Review Consultation via phone or video-with Laura. This appointment has three purposes:

    1. To make sure that Laura has all of the information needed to gain a comprehensive understanding of many of the factors affecting your health, and to ensure all your questions are answered.

    2. For Laura to recommend and come to an agreement with you on which labs to order.

    3. To give you a head start on your health program before your Report of Findings (ROF) Case Review consultation. You will receive a Preparation Phase Protocol after this initial video-consultation.

A 60 to 90-minute ROF video-consult to review your lab results and present your protocol.

    • This typically occurs between 60 and 90 days after the Initial Case Review Consult, because some of the labs we use can take up to 8 weeks to deliver the results to us after receiving your sample. The ROF Case Review meeting includes:

      • A summary of the underlying patterns that are contributing to your symptoms.

      • An outline of the suggested health plan, including dietary, supplement and lifestyle recommendations.

      • Recommendations for further testing (this will typically be minimal, if necessary at all, because of the completeness of the Case Review intake process)

  • A protocol including diet, supplements and lifestyle therapies.

  • Recommendations for further testing (if necessary).

Lab Tests:

The exact lab testing ordered as part of the Case Review depends on your individual circumstances, but may include:

  • A comprehensive blood chemistry panel. This is the single most efficient, effective and affordable tool for quickly evaluating your health. It screens for a wide range of conditions, including several types of anemia; gut, viral and bacterial infections; insulin resistance and hypoglycemia; liver and kidney issues; and thyroid and adrenal problems. It offers important clues for how to structure and focus your health program to get the best results. It also provides a baseline of biomarkers that can be used to objectively track the progress of your program over time.

  • Additional blood tests for specific conditions, such as high cholesterol, hypothyroidism, autoimmune disease and gluten sensitivity.

  • Advanced stool testing and breath testing to screen for small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), to screen for parasites, fungal overgrowth, bacterial infections, intestinal inflammation, dysbiosis and a deficiency of beneficial gut bacteria.

  • Urine organic acids testing to screen for fungal overgrowth, problems metabolizing fat or carbohydrates, B-vitamin status, methylation issues, detoxification capacity, oxidative stress and neurotransmitter metabolism.

  • Urine and saliva hormone testing for adrenal and sex hormone status.

PHASE TWO: Follow Up Appointments

Once the Case Review is complete, you’ll have follow-up appointments on an as-needed basis throughout the remainder of your health program

The first follow-up appointment generally occurs between six and ten weeks after you have Case Review ROF consultation. At that time, Laura will review your progress, along with any follow-up test results, and make additional recommendations as necessary.

From there, the frequency of your follow-up appointments will depend upon the severity of your condition as well as your response to the protocol.

You may schedule follow-up appointments in office or by phone or zoom video conference in 15-minute increments in-between 30 to 60 minutes per session.

Initial Consultation: $75. Phone or video consultation (35 minutes) required for all new clients.

Case Review Appointments

The Case Review is the fastest and most efficient way to determine the underlying causes of your health problems and design an effective health program. It is designed to save you money and time over the long-term by performing the appropriate testing and evaluation before the program begins.

Here is a breakdown of the costs involved in the Case Review and follow-up visits so you can plan accordingly.

Case Review: $480. Includes three hours of phone or video consultation, a detailed Report of Findings (ROF) and a protocol with dietary, supplement, lifestyle recommendations and supporting materials and resources. The three hours are typically used within two to three consultations (Initial consult, ROF consult and one follow up)

Ongoing appointments after Case Review hours have been used: $80. for 30 minutes, $120. for 45 minutes, $160. for 60 minutes.

Laboratory Tests

We are committed to make the Functional Medicine approach accessible to all people, as part of our mission to change health care.

We take into consideration your signs and symptoms, preferences and budget. The cost of laboratory tests recommended during the case review process can range from $300 – $3,500.

We work with each client to find a level of testing that feels comfortable. We can stagger the testing in order of priority over time, so it is more affordable. The lab testing cost depends on the complexity of the health condition.

All Lab tests are ordered through us at Ancestral Health Center of California. You are also welcome to send recent (within 6 months) Lab Tests results corresponding to what has been recommended by Laura Leite.

See Lab Tests Approach and Processing Fee for tests that require extra overhead. Processing fees do not apply to LabCorp where we order our blood chemistry markers and panels.

The cost for supplements during the case review process is typically $70 – $800. This can be customized based on budgetary constraints. This cost depends on the protocol(s) recommended for your condition, and these estimates represent 1-6 months.

GRAND TOTAL OF CASE REVIEW FEES (Consultations, Lab Tests, Supplements)

The total you should expect to pay for the entire case review process RANGES FROM $480 to 680 (low end when less lab tests are required) TO $3,500 (higher end when more lab tests are required). This includes the first three hours of Case Review appointments, lab testing, and supplements for the initial three to four months of health program.

Please note that you will have the opportunity to decide which of the laboratory and supplement recommendations you wish to proceed with, and you will only pay for those that you approve. The only fee that you commit to is the $480. fee for the Case Review consultations.

Estimated Costs for Supplements for Ongoing Program

Our goal is to optimize nutrition in a way that supplements will not be needed. In the case when supplements are needed on an ongoing basis, costs vary considerably but average approximately $0. (our goal) – $250/month.
